Lessons from the Ranch: Leaving a Legacy

Every time we visit my parents, my adult-ing children ask my parents to share their most valuable treasures: Their stories. Their stories of faith and miracles with God are their most inspiring legacy. It was in one of these trips that I started to ask God some deeper questions about my own faith.

“Is my faith alive?”

“Am I truly trusting God, or providing for myself?”

“Is my life supposed to be adventurous?” My pursuit of these answers caused me to dive into God’s word and wait to be answered.  Adventure was birthed in the waiting. I am convinced that the more we make room for Jesus in our lives, the more Jesus we get. The Bible tells us that we already have all we need in Him. And that we have Full Access to Him. (2 Peter 1:3 & Eph 2:18) During this season there were profound bible verses that woke up my spirit and breathed life into my sleeping bones.

James 1:27. Religion that God our Father accepts as pure and faultless is this, to look after orphans and widows in their distress and to keep oneself from being polluted by the world. Luke 4:18-19 The Spirit of the Lord is on me, because he has anointed me to proclaim good news to the poor. He has sent me to proclaim freedom for the prisoners and recovery of sight for the blind, to set the oppressed free, to proclaim the year of the Lord’s favor. Thinking back to Mom & Dad and their adventurous life with Jesus: they risked, they trusted, they believed in His promises and God revealed Himself as He answered them. The word of God was becoming vividly colorful. The only response I could grasp was to let go and release my life to action. As I wrestled with leaving my safe life to the adventurous unknown, the Lord met me to assure me, comfort me, and cheer me on. I happened to be at Mom & Dad’s ranch in Durango, Colorado when He woke me up out of a deep sleep with the words: You will be blessed in doing it!

James 1:25 But whoever looks intently into the perfect law that gives freedom, and continues in it - not forgetting what they have heard, but doing it - they will be blessed in what they do.

My faith was alive, and I had to take action! Words from the verses that became activated for me were: widow, orphan, proclaim good news to poor, proclaim freedom for prisoners, recover sight for the blind, oppressed set free. Hitching Post Ministries Adventure Began! Mom & Dad, thanks for living out your faith in fullness. Thank you for leaving a legacy of adventure. Thanks for making Jesus real and your faith alive. We love you!

To the ones who actually read this: May you expand the territory of your heart and believe that HE CAN! He will! Start your Legacy Now!
